FAQs
-
Invasive plants are non-native species that spread aggressively, outcompeting native vegetation and disrupting ecosystems.
-
Currently: Invasive plants crowd out native species, harm wildlife habitats, and diminish the ecological balance. They can also cause financial strain due to costly removal efforts.
Future Concerns: Left unchecked, these plants could devastate local biodiversity, leading to the loss of valuable native trees and wildlife, while creating long-term environmental challenges.
-
Yes, invasive plants such as kudzu, wisteria, and English ivy are still available for purchase through major nurseries and online retailers.
-
Kudzu: Trace the vine to its crown, which is typically buried about five inches underground. Dig beneath the crown and sever it from the root.
Wisteria: Cut the vine at its root and use spot treatment with herbicide to prevent regrowth.
English Ivy: Cut vines at waist height, remove the lower section from the tree, and sever it at the base.
-
Invasive vines climb trees and compete with the canopy for sunlight, weakening tree growth. Wisteria is particularly damaging, as it wraps tightly around tree trunks, causing permanent structural harm.
